We're so honored to get to celebrate our wedding with you in Italy. Our ceremony will take place in the town of Assisi, home to St. Francis and St. Claire and one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in Italy. Francis and Claire responded with their entire lives to a deeper calling from God, and it is this spirit of radical openness and fidelity which draws us to Assisi. We imagine these days of celebration as a pilgrimage of sorts, and hope that our time together will reflect the simplicity, beauty, and communion that Francis and Claire embodied. We invite you to arrive early and explore Assisi before the festivities begin on the 12th. This year is the Jubilee Year of St. Francis, making it an especially blessed time to visit Assisi.

Our Wedding

Why Assisi?

We wanted the location of our wedding ceremony to reflect the spiritual commitment at the center of our relationship. In 2024, we traveled to Italy together, and the trip was transformative in many ways. Every morning, we sat in one of the old churches or monasteries found in every town visited, and over the course of those days, we felt the deepening sense that our relationship was part of something so much bigger than us—that our being together reflected a calling we both needed to pay attention to. In similar and different ways, St. Francis and St. Clare have been guiding forces in our lives. We met, after all, in the city named after St. Francis! More deeply, Francis’ and Clare’s total devotion to God—to listening to where their hearts felt most moved—speaks to both what brought us together and why we’re joining our lives together in marriage. For these reasons and more, we chose Assisi as the destination for our wedding. We feel immensely grateful to celebrate with our loved ones in such a sacred place. It is our hope that these days of gathering together will reflect the spirit of Francis and Clare, and that our wedding might be an occasion to collectively slow down, to be inspired, and to savor the beauty around us. With this intention in mind, we will be journeying to Assisi on foot from Firenze along the Via di Francesco. History of Assisi

Assisi is a small hillside town located in the central Italian region of Umbria, nested on the slopes of Monte Subasio. This bucolic town rose to prominence in the early 1200s through the works of two of the world’s most well known saints, St. Francis of Assisi and St. Clare of Assisi. Francis’ embrace of radical poverty and peacemaking ignited the Franciscan movement, the Order of Friars Minor, which gathered around him to share in his work. St. Clare, who was deeply inspired by Francis, founded the women’s branch first known as the “Poor Ladies of San Damiano,” later called the Poor Clares. The spiritual footprints of Francis and Clare can be found throughout Assisi’s sacred geography – the Basilica of San Francesco that anchors the city’s Franciscan identity, the church at San Damiano where Francis converted, and the Basilica of Santa Chiara, which is dedicated to Clare. These sites tell the parallel story of contemplative poverty, prayer, and service that shaped medieval and modern spiritual life and imagination. To this day St. Francis, St. Clare, and the town of Assisi itself continue to inspire with their profound and simple beauty. Assisi’s splendor is inclusive - it is spiritual, architectural, artistic, and agricultural. About Assisi

This year is the Jubilee Year of St. Francis, making it an especially blessed time to visit Assisi. It also means that the city is expected to welcome many visitors during this time, so we encourage guests to plan travel and accommodations accordingly. Note that the castle is about a 25 minute drive from Assisi. Though the wedding ceremony will take place at Cathedral Rufino in Assisi, there won't be much time to explore the town on the day of the ceremony. There is a luggage storage facility at the Assisi train station---this might be a convenient option if you'd like to check out the city for a few hours on the 12th before arriving at the castle.

Castello di Rosciano

We’re so excited to celebrate our wedding events at Castello di Rosciano, a beautifully restored medieval castle nestled in the Umbrian valley and located just west of Assisi. The castle dates back to the ninth century and overlooks olive groves, vineyards, and rolling green hills. The grounds feature several terraces and gardens, rustic yet modern rooms (with air conditioning) and a large swimming pool (don't forget to bring your suit!) The entire space is reserved just for our wedding, so guests will be able to wander, explore, and enjoy the views throughout the days.

Cattedrale di San Rufino

Our wedding ceremony will take place at Cattedrale di San Rufino in Assisi. Located in the historic center, San Rufino is renowned as the site where both Clare and Francis were baptized. A shuttle will be provided to transport guests to and from the ceremony.

Getting to the Castle

The closest airport to Castello di Rosciano (near Torgiano / Umbria) is Perugia San Francesco d'Assisi – Umbria International Airport (IATA: PEG). From there, the castle is a 15-20 minute drive. Because direct flights Perugia San Francesco d'Assisi Airport (PEG) are often limited and more expensive (it's a small airport), we recommend flying into Rome–Fiumicino International Airport (FCO). From Rome, you can either drive (about 1.5 hrs) or take the train (the trains are lovely and about 20 euro one way). The train ride is about 2.5 hrs to Perugia and then 20 minutes driving from there. Walk to the Castle from Assisi!

If you're interested in making your arrival to the castle a true pilgrimage experience, consider arriving their by foot! It is about a 13 mile walk from Assisi to the castle. If interested in being connected with others making the walk, send a message to Annie and she'll connect you to the group.

Castello di Rosciano features 32 modern air-conditioned rooms, including double, triple, and family options. Each room comes with its own private bathroom. An additional 7 rooms are available in the castle’s Foresteria, located 500 meters from the main castle. Shuttle transport to and from the Foresteria is included in the room rate and will be arranged for guests. The room rates are as follows: Single rooms: 80 euros/night + 10%VAT- Includes 1 queen bed- Accommodate 1 guest Double rooms: 120 euros/night + 10%VAT- Includes 1 queen bed- Accommodate 2 guests- Some rooms can add 1 extra bed to accommodate up to 3 guests (limited availability) Family Suites: 120 euros/night + 50 euros per each additional person after 2 people + 10%VAT- Family Suites have connecting rooms or loft-style layouts- Include multiple beds (2 queens or 1 queen + sofabed) with optional extra twin bed add-ons available- Accommodate 3–6 guests depending on roomNote: some Family Suites are in the Foresteria, which is detached from the main castle site. Castello Rosciano is a historic castle rather than a standard hotel. As such, it does not provide typical hotel services like 24-hour reception. Dedicated event staff will be present to support the wedding and guest needs as scheduled. All rooms include en suite bathrooms, hair dryers, and AC. Note that only queen and twin beds are available. There is ample free parking on site for all guests!
